It also comments on the roles of three other prominent women characters in the Gone With the Wind (Ellen, Mammy and Melanie) who influence and shape the behavior of the main protagonist, Scarlett. Being a woman, the aspect that has interested me, as well as has been a matter of deep concern is: the status of women vis-à-vis men; and the role of society, in not just determining that status but imposing it too. The female protagonists chosen for this study consciously defy the diktats of the society and emerge as symbols of female rebellion in the socio-cultural narratives of their societies. | ||
